2010 Hydraulic Track Adjuster Problem

Post by username » Mon Nov 11, 2013 2:26 pm

I run the track off my 2010 and put it back on several weeks ago and I just now got around to adjusting up the track.I pulled the plug next to the zerk to release the grease and retracted the adjuster the whole way.I installed the track and put the plug back in and tried pumping up the track but the grease is coming out a hole directly underneath the zerk.

Any thoughts?

Most likely when you took the set screw out, you lost the check ball in all the grease.

No spring, just a ball? Do you have the size of the ball?

You would have thought I figured something was up when I emptied over have a tube of grease and there was no movement

Plus next to the zerk is not a plug, it is a set screw that holds the check ball against a seat inside of the adjuster. When you pull the set screw all the way out, the ball comes out inside of the pile of grease and you seldom see it.

The size of the ball is the biggest one you can get in the hole if you can get a measurement in the bottom of the threads on the bolt (with a set of calipers) and go a little smaller

Thanks for all the help.

I am guessing that I should have just backed of the set screw instead of removing it.

Sorry, I forgot to give it, the ball is .375. I have them on hand if you need one.

Hi,

Yep!

I did that once myself. Only once, though. Like was said: these kinds of lessons stick really good!

It started out simple enough.I traded my plasma cutter and Graco paint sprayer for a 1010 crawler. It was a friend of mine and he said the engine ran but was weak.Well it has almost enough power in low gear to grade and it uses better than two quarts of oild an hour.I was trying to hog out a small stream that runs through my property and I was using my 680 hoe to dig and pile and the 1010 to push the pile but it was going a little slow so my friend lent me his 2010.

I already had a nice trough dug with the 680 so I started on the other side pushing out the pond with the 2010 while the water was still in the trough and not where I was pushing.I figured I would knock and push the last bit between the trough out real quick and get out of the pond before it would fill up with water. The water was not running in real fast so I had time or so I thought. That is when the track came off.

I guess I forgot to mention the rocks and one of them so large that my 680 could hardly handle it.I had one track on a rock and one in the trough which was several feet lower than the rock and I jumped the track off trying to get out of the situation.

I was not too excited about trying to get the track back on in the middle of a pond filling up with water so I tried pulling out the 2010 with my hoe but my 3/8 chain kept breaking due to the track locking up from being wedged on the push arm and I did not have any help at the time with an operator on the 2010.

I did finally get some help and drug it up out of there but it was against a large tree where I could not get at it real good so I decided to drag it around the the tree with the hoe and with someone on the dozer and low and behold the track run right back on.

I know I've been there; one of those "this will only take a minute, or "this will make things easier" type jobs. Ouch

Hi,

When digging in the dirt, there is (of course) a completely different time reference to anything else in the universe! So, it only does 'take a minute' !!

Ha!!!
