JD1010 Crawler Diesel Starter 9 or 10 tooth

Post by TunkCreek » Tue Nov 19, 2013 10:02 am

In trying to find a starter for my 1010, the part #s 1107573 ( what I pulled out) and the replacement # AT17411T both list a 9 or 10 tooth drive gear depending on where you look. The actual one removed (1107573) has 10 teeth. Don't know if this was a replacement or not. Dumb question - should I match the 10 tooth starter I pulled out or could it be wrong. I have no gear grinding. Would a 9 tooth work? Take it easy on this newby ('')

Welcome to the site!
We are all learning as we go.
Some with a few more scars than others.
If the machine can sit for a while I would rebuild the starter you have.
Happy wrenching,

Duke

I think some of the diesel starters were 24 volt also. gregjo1948

I believe the 1010s like the 2010s were originally configured to be 12V positive ground, although that would not have stopped someone from converting to 24V.

24 volt was an option, I have never seen one still in that configuration though.

Thanks Duke. That's my plan to get it rebuilt. Hopefully before the snow flies and makes it that much more fun on the install. Thanks again for the info.

before you sent it out for REBUILD you should make sure you have a diesel starter a gas starter will fit the diesel i have seen a few diesels with gas starters on them... seen one on ebay told the guy it was a gas he said it CAME OFF OF A DIESEL so he sold it as a diesel starter so someone got screwed... can you put up a few pics of the starter you have?
