Subject: Starter Issue - 420C # 103534 Quote message
First Time User: I have a 420C with number 90 loader / scarifier, 5 roller. Have ? on starter... I bought the unit used, and the starter does not seem to nest into the bell housing...on occasion .. she'll grind and not want to engage, and I have to adjust the fit, slide the starter around on the face of the housing a bit, and re-tighten it up there.... a hit or miss on line up....what's going on...did somebody but a off brand starter on my old crawler??? I would think the thing would pin right in there ,,,dead nuts perfect.... ???? you folks up on this issues- anybody seen this issue?

there should be an indent in the starter that the tapered set screw goes into holding starter firm, could it be wrong setscrew or not aligned with the indent??

Should be no wiggle room at all other than a small amount of tolerance in the bolt holes. If you can move it, something is wrong.

Bummer...the crawler is 350 miles away at my other property....so I only make it up there once or twice a year....and need to take parts with me as it is sort of remote area....sounds like it might not even be the correct starter or nose cone on it....it's sloppy for sure, I can move it around a good 3/16 of an inch this way and that way and sort of have to pick a spot and tighten the bolts down....uummm ...cranks good ..but don't want to chew up that ring gear.... I'm not familiar with any set screw or indent???

If you have the two bolt starter, there isn't anything.
