Jig to hold 1953 40C while rebuilding

Post by Cajun Homesteader » Thu Feb 06, 2014 4:53 pm

I am wanting to build a jig to hold my crawler while I rebuild it. I have few ideas on how I want it built and I want to use some 10' caster 9 1/2' tall to roll it around my shop to work on it and to roll it to the paint area. It will be adjustable in height, length and width to help facilitate reinstalling the tracks after I have the engine running and the drive train rebuilt. I am asking has anybody tried this, built one and do you have any pros and cons on this. I will be using steel 2' square tubing, because I already have it.

I use a stand for MC through 430, should be some pics in show and tell somewhere. For 440 I use a pair of "skates" I built that sit under the trackframes, and have 8-1000lb casters under them. Not as handy as the stand, but still allows me to move it around to work, and on rare occasion, clean.

Jig for 40C

Post by Cajun Homesteader » Fri Feb 07, 2014 7:49 pm

Hey thanks for the tips. that's nice, Crawler and Jig, I did mean in inches, slight mistake by the hand. My trade background is in the Millwright trade or Outside Machinst but I repair and maintain Milling Machines and equipment used in the Aircraft Industry, using closer tolerance than inches. Sorry.
I received my rebuild books today, researching parts and going to the welding shop tomorrow to weld the engine rear bottom corner back on.
