Water Pump Bolt on 430C

Post by VJW » Tue Feb 11, 2014 5:31 am

Any suggestions of how to get the lower right water pump bolt out on a 430C that has the Allen head rounded out? This is the tough one that sits a little behind the pulley and is awkward to extract on a good day. Thanks!

Can you cut the head off or grind it off? Then remove the pump and work on removing the bolt. With the pressure releived on the bolt, it may come out easier. You could possibly weld a nut to the petruding cut off bolt and use a wrech to turn it out. gregjo1948

There are easy outs for socket head capscrews, they are oversize and kind of tapered. You drive them in, and they wedge, hopefully enough to get the bolt out. If you can rotate the whole waterpump, I have done that before too if only one bolt left.
Otherwise, the welded nut idea works well too.
