1010 hydraulics question

Post by Clayton » Sun Feb 16, 2014 9:52 am

Good Morning
I have a 1962 1010 with the 810 loader. If i push the loader joystick all the way forward (to lower the arms) it will "stick" in this position. I think that this is called the float position. My question is will this help keep stress off the hydraulic pump during cold weather starts? In this position does the oil just circulate through the system? The pump is working fine and i would like to keep it this way.

Thank you

NO.... float just allows the hyd. fluid in the lift rams to flow freely from one end to the other

It allows the bucket to "float". No up or down pressure: just the weight of the bucket and arms. gregjo1948

Clayton, I use the float position a lot when moving snow. Once the ground is frozen, it floats nicely along the frozen contours of the road.

Thanks you guys for the help and advice. I used it to plow snow yesterday and the float feature worked great!
This site is such a great resource for guys like me who have never owned a crawler anything before and know less than nothing about them.
Thanks again for the information and to Lavoy for hosting this site

There should be a hyd pump disconnect on the front of the motor. a little handle with a sliding sleeve to disengage the hyd pump for cold starts.

I'm not certain there is a disconnect on all of them. Mine doesn't have one but mine is a dozer not a loader. I did have a 1010 dozer a couple years ago that did have one. gregjo1948

Early ones don't, there is a serial number break.

Yes, mine does have this assembly. However the handle with the ball detent is missing and the rod that actuates it seems to be froze up. I have been putting PB Blaster on it and will try to find a handle for it.

Thanks

Correct, we have an early 1010 loader and it doesn't have one. It has the shifter on the dash.

Lavoy is correct, the serial number break for this disconnect is 21901 and up. Does any one know where i might find the lever and ball assembly for this? I have seen a "Farmer John" on ebay with parts for sale, anyone have any experience with him?

Clayton, I've bought some parts from Farmer John. Give him a call, he knows his stuff pretty well and he'll more than likely know what your looking for.
Some of the parts were a little more beat up than I expected but, oh well they worked.
His prices are a little high on things I think, but he has a lot of stuff.

Did you try Lavoy? He sells parts at a good price... That is if there is such a thing as a good price when working on a dozer
