plowing with my MC

Does anyone know if you plow with your MC on land or in furrow? I have a John Deere 2-14 pull type plow that I moved the hitch over so that I could plow on land. It really messed up the draft on the plow and I couldn't get the hitched moved over far enough so that I could be far enough away from the furrow so it wouldn't cave in. I'm thinking of trying it in furrow this year but I would rather stay on land. Anyone have any experience with this?. When you plow with an mc2 plow on a tool carrier are you in furrow?

Hi,

Crawlers plow on land. You really wear the roller flanges in furrow. They made an offset plow for the crawlers for that reason.

Yes, like Stan says, never plow in the furrow with a crawler, drastic wear and damage will occur.

stan do you know what models of john deere plows were made for the crawler then besides the the ones that fit on the tool carrier? I am thinking more of a pull type plow. I cant think of a john deere model that is offset

How far will your hitch move to the left?
All you need is enough to stay out of the furrow.
Even an extension would work.

Pretty much any trailing plow will work, it is all in the hitch adjustment.

I have my hitch slid all the way over, it is over to the point where it throws the draft of the plow off. I plow with a jd 2-14 plow and that is all that it wants. some people think that I should try a jd 3-12 plow but I am not sure that I could handle it with my mc. I still am not sure if a mc2 plow hooked to a mc1000 tool carrier gives you the ability to plow on land. I don't think that it does but am not certain. I just wish that I could find a plow that would work better but nobody can tell me the model plow that will work. I am out of the furrow with the plow hitch set all the way over, but I still crush the furrow and it doesn't do a good job because of the draft

I have an MC2 plow, and you plow on land. All crawlers plow on land, period. The undercarriage wear and damage from plowing in the furrow would be unbelievable.
We have plowed with several 2 and 3 bottom trailing plows, never had any trouble. Also make sure to l let your drawbar swing, it will reduce wear on clutches.

Lavoy, when you were plowing with the 2 bottom was it a 2-14 and did you crush the furrow. Also was the 3 bottom a 3-12? I gont think an MC would pull a 3-14 would it? Another thought I has was how does a Crawler with a 3 point fit into all of this? Could you plow on land using a 3 point plow? It doesn't seem possible.

Never seen a 12" plow, at least around here, all 14" for old stuff, 16" when I was younger.
No, no damage to the furrow, worked fine. It was an Allis 2 bottom that we pull the most.
3PT plow for a crawler is specific to only a crawler and was specially built for just that application.

I don't know if the MC is the same, but on the 420 the drawbar can be unbolted and moved to an extended position. Perhaps that would increase the offset enough?
