John Deere 1010 diesel block cracked journals

Post by Roughneck » Fri Mar 07, 2014 5:13 pm

So i bought a pair of 1010's a crawler loader w/hoe and the other has a six way. Long story short, both blocks are cracked at the journals. Is this fixable? Or am I going to have to find two replacement blocks?

If the "journals" are the web between the sleeves it is almost impossible to find crack free.
Down at the bottom where the rings go... Not good.

The one is cracked above the main bearing journals this has been welded by the/a previous owner. The other is cracked clear through the journal itself. However both are cracked on the opposite side from the oil passages. I was wondering if it was a good idea to try and run these blocks? Or try to find replacements? I have my doubts that good blocks are going to be an easy find.

Are they gas engines?
If so there are a few around.
I'd go for a replacement.
If welding or has been they should get line bored.

the blocks have froze and split you need to find good a block/blocks those cracks will let coolant flow from cooling jacket around the liners to the oil pan..... they can be found ..watch how many main bearings you have
2010 with 622 dozer with mod. 35 ripper and a 2010 with 622 dozer bought in 1969 and a 2010 loader with drott and mod. 36 ripper

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'm in the market for a couple used blocks.
