My 1957 420

Post by dr1zsk1 » Mon Mar 10, 2014 7:09 am

Well - I've almost gotten my 3 point installed. It was frozen pretty badly with rust welding in the rocker shaft but we did get it freed up. Following Lavoy's advice I filled the thing with axle grease, at this point it has pressure in it but I'm sure it will go away with use.

I didn't want to mess up the factory set up so I'm using the original valve with a switch to go between the blade and the 3 point. My goal will be to find an original paired set of valves and the hosing to get it right but I want to play with it.

I'm very happy with the setup - the extendable arms mechanism is not functioning properly but I think that I can duplicate the factory setup and make them extend.

This is a picture while I was test fitting, I have it looking better right now.

Another 420 in progress

Nice to see others fixing up a 420 3 point hitch machine. I removed my dozer as I thought I'd have to wait to long to find the correct hydraulic valve, plus I didn't want to the factory single function valve at is unmolested.

I think it's fairly difficult to have a full factory and functioning 3 point hitch. I bought 2 complete crawlers and a partial and I only have enough parts for one full factory complete and unrepaired / unbroken assembly.

I won't get to my 420 until next winter, still scavenging a few more parts from Lavoy and some off my dad's parts shed and crawlers once the snow melts.
