350 engine in 1010

Post by original possum » Tue Mar 18, 2014 5:16 pm

My nephew had a valve head snap off and total the engine in his 1010C gas. He has access to an engine from a 350 and wonders if it will bolt up. Anyone have experience with this?

The short answer is no, I don't believe it will not bolt up to the bellhousing for the 1010 without a lot of custom modifications and then still may not be possible.

If you want a more detailed explanation there are a couple of threads discussing engine mods on 1010s/2010s but essentially they are somewhat orphaned in terms of parts compatibility with other models except for undercarriage. However there are power units and combines that have compatible engines, and you can swap a 2010 engine into a 1010:

I had a little time today so found a couple more related threads you can go through on this subject:

Thanks. I passed on the info and threads. He is even considering a small-block Chevy V-8! He may do it just for the challenge. Should be plenty dead 45 combines nearby if he changes his mind.

Remember if he really overpowers the crawler then he is more likely to wear out the remaining drivetrain components (reverser, transmission, and finals) a lot faster and they are not cheap or easy to find either.

Here is an interesting thread about repowers if that is really what he wants to do:
