rw, 420 run problem update, questions...

Post by theshanmand1! » Sat Mar 22, 2014 8:07 am

good Saturday morn. to you all.
my new intake will be arriving soon, I have been unable to locate any torque specs in any of my manuals. I do however have a torque values cheat sheet, should I just torque the intake/exhaust manifold bolts according to the bolt & grade of the cheat sheet?

one more question :)

I have ordered parts from steiner, restoration supply, and yesterdays tractor, they all offered a manifold for a m,mt, 420 @ $110 with gasket.
one site says it will work on all 420 tractors.
yesterdays tractor also offers a manifold for 420 tractors up to serial # 139999 for $148 w/o gasket. quite confusing!
I ordered the more expensive one  as my crawler is a 58/420
could someone explain the difference?
thanks again guys, have a great weekend :D

136,868 is the end of 420 production.
139,999 on up is for the 430 crawlers, if memory serves me correctly the manifold on the 430's are offset to the rear and the exhaust pipe will not line up with the hole in the hood of a 420.

Good luck.
I haven't had luck with anything fitting/ being quite right on parts I ordered from Steiner.
I'd rather buy something original and not as pretty looking and fit right than buy from Steiner anymore.

There are various products for various manufacturers that do or don't work, and seemingly no rhyme or reason to why. Over the last 25 years, I have learned which are the one to buy, and which ones to avoid. Manifolds are one of my big pet peeves, they are so grossly misrepresented and misadvertised as to be a joke, and more than just Steiners.
