You Opinion on if 420 has enough power for this.

Post by dr1zsk1 » Tue May 06, 2014 4:52 pm

I have a chance to buy this.

Will a 420 have enough power for this? It weights quite a bit.

I can also cut the front two teeth off and just use the back three.

I have been using it and it seems to push the 420 pretty hard -- I have to pull in 1st gear -- it cuts and works but when I'm backing and turning with it on it tries to pull the tracks.

I don't think your 420 is enough machine to fully engage this machine and pull it. Maybe if you gauge the depth it sinks, it would pull it thru easy soil. It looks like something that should be attached to a 450. I think it's going to harm you're 420. gregjo1948

Given the cost and/or scarcity of the parts you will in all likelihood be breaking eventually, I would probably not do it.

i would think about cutting the three off and leave the two that's about all you should try to pull with a small machine like you have
2010 with 622 dozer with mod. 35 ripper and a 2010 with 622 dozer bought in 1969 and a 2010 loader with drott and mod. 36 ripper

I'm with these guys however it sounds like your issue is the weight when it's not in the ground as opposed to the machine having enough power to pull it.

On a different note, that is one heck of a piece of equipment. Should really tear the ground up.

I wouldn't take the chance of busting that nice 3 point. I'd look for a smaller scarifier, or even a box blade with shanks.

Hi,

I agree. That looks like about twice as much weight and load as a poor old 420 wants to see.....

Looks like way to much wt hanging way out back. Maybe remove the back 3 to put the pull closer to the crawler?

Is that a 4 roller?? Even less balance.

Hi,

Yes, three of the teeth it ought to pull OK, and the diet you are planning ought to make it within the lifting range.

I'll post pictures after I get it done. I am going to try to make some gauge wheels for it as well. I have a pair of wheels on an old spring plow that may work. That way I can just run it in float.

Seems a shame to cut up this huskie ripper. I think you should sell it and get a more sensible size box blade with rippers. gregjo1948
