starts and runs properly when cold, after working(plowing and discing) for approx 1/2 hr, begins to misfire and eventually stops and wont start till cools down for overnight, has plenty of gas running out the carb drain when opened, has spark but very weak, what would you think might be the cause, thanks

Hi,

Sounds like cracks in the insulator tips of the spark plugs. Modern ethanol laced gas can detonate and cause microcracks to form. Been there, done that.

Could possibly be a bad ignition coil that's breaking down as it warms up.

My Experience

Post by dr1zsk1 » Fri Jun 13, 2014 8:22 am

I had a similar situation.

I did the following - not exactly sure which one fixed it.

New Distributor Cap
New Points / Condenser
New Wires
New Rotor
New Coil
New Resistor

Fixed the problem completely - Based on what I was getting in feedback here I suspect the coil was the problem but It all needed to be changed anyway.

If man can break it man can fix it .. it just takes time and money.

If you let it run at idle when the misfiring first begins does this extend the life?
