John Deere 2010

Post by Pilgrimwoodcraft96 » Sat Jun 28, 2014 8:23 pm

So our family farm has had a 2010 sitting in the barn for ages. I asked about it and it is said to not be able to steer left, it hasnt run in years but all gas was drained. I pulled the seat, and un bolted the small covers. The Right side has oil in it and the left is dry, and when pulling the right steer arm there's resistance, but the left one is so loose, theres no resistance to the pull. Any ideas, i had heard of the clutches freezing open, is that a possible problem, and is the oil on the right bad?
Thanks
Ben

Oil is not good on the clutch plates and brake bands.
Time to open it up and replace most of those parts.

the right is new seals and brake band and most likley clutches if either or both have oil on them they are junk... the left is so swolen with rust that the fingers are way down away from the throught out bearing that is why you dont have any resistance on the lever..... needs new clutches and brake band also

Ok so in order to do all this, I hav to pull the tracks, and fully remove that cover with the steering arm, pull the shaft and lift out the clutches?

Would be good to get the Deere service manual for your machine if you don't have it already.

Both sides may need the same while you are in there.
