Diesel sediment bowl gasket

Post by JimG » Thu Jul 10, 2014 8:41 am

Hey All,

I know this is a stupid question but I have a leaking sediment bowl and am in need of a new gasket and cant find anything that fits. I tried an oring with no success. Does anyone have a solution thats easier than buying a new bowl.

My crawler is a work in progress but I like to start it every month to keep things moving and my fuel system keeps getting air bound from the leak.

Thanks,
Jim

Is there a reason you can't buy a piece of cork gasket and cut to fit?

Edit:

Oh. Wait. Title says diesel. Probably won't have this problem with diesel fuel and cork....

Hi,

They are readily available in neoprene from the Deere parts counter. I just got one a couple months ago.

Cork works until you let sit unused for a couple months. The cork absorbs a small amount of gas. That evaporates out and drops the level in the bowl a bit. Then, the cork shrinks. When you finally get back to turning the valve on, the gasket will leak. And, you get to make a new one. Again.

I have this thing where the 420c sits for 2-3 months between jobs, and my M also sits all winter, and have made far too many cork gaskets. Now, I just buy rubber ones and they last several years.

I also learned long ago to always turn off the fuel valve when done using a machine. ;)
