Overload on one track, dropping the steering lever so it suddenly engages, jerking on the steering lever to free up a stuck clutch, and probably a host of other possibilities.

it broke off near the hub going into the clutch pack my clutch pack/hub that holds the steels and fibers is a little loose like a bearing might have gone bad or is that normal to have some play? the shaft looks as if it had twisted off but either way I need one I haven’t found any as of yet I read on one forum post that there is a difference in length?

Bolts should be tight, but don't know if that would contribute to breakage or not.
I have several shafts on hand, no different lengths from factory, some times people shorten them if the splines in the ring gear carrier strip.
