440 icd oil types

Post by Jaybird » Wed Sep 23, 2015 7:53 pm

I know I have seen somewhere but I thought I would ask. What type of oil in my 440icd? Motor, trans, and reverser.
Many Thanks, Jaybird

Motor is 40 wt. I'll check the manual for trans and reverser

Hi,

Reverser uses 303 Hydraulic, nowadays Hygard. Trans and final drives use 90 wt gear oil. Detroit engines use Delo, 40 wt as already mentioned.

Many thanks. I can't get hygard locally. Is the traveler brand from tractor supply any good? And where can I get the 40 wt delo oil?
Many Thanks, Jaybird

I went to one of the oil jobbers in the nearest big city (Abilene, Texas) and he got me a case of Delo 100 {not 400} it was only available in quarts of HD40 or I would have tried 30 wt.

Hi,

The Tractor Supply version of the old 303 will work fine.

Delo 100 is hard to find around here, only know of one jobber 30 miles away that has it.

Yep, you guys are probably seeing the DELO400. It's very common around here, but the Delo 100 is not. You want the Delo 100. If I remember right it's got the lowest ash content.

Regardless of brand, low ash is the ONLY oil you run in a two stroke Detroit.
