1010C Final Drive/ Trans

Post by EdK » Wed Dec 05, 2007 9:32 pm

Gentlemen, I recently aquired a 1010 crawler from a relative, the unit has been sitting outside for three years. The bolts on the passenger side final drive are broken and the tranny is stuck in gear and will not shift. The dozer moved and steered when I loaded it. My uncle said everything was working properly when he noticed the missing bolts at which time he parked it! Trying not to be disrespectful I have noticed various cobbled up repairs and am wondering if the shearing of the bolts is caused by not maintaining the machine or if this is a normal problem! Also are the two problems related? Thank's Ed

Trans won't shift

I removed the top plate from the transmission and found coffee colored sludge and ice :?: , I assuming water is the culprit. Can any tell me how the water might have gotten in the trans?

Either condensation, or if a floor shift, around the shifter lever.
