Hello guys
Hope Katrinna and Rita didn't get ya And lets pray for those it did!
I have 3 questions.
1. It looks like if i take the" bell housing " off i'm going to get into the
transmission. Am I getting a hornets nest or will this not affect me to much?
I guess I had 1 questions and 2 info needed
2 I need a picture of the factory 3 point
I t looks like mine was home made
The red paint stops at the rear of the bell housing
Is there a way to tell, other than paint,if the rearend is the same year and
if so How. I don't see any tags
Thanks
Lowboy
P.S. What is the weight of this machine? 3rd question

By puling the center section, you will only get to the front of the transmsiion, no internals. If you have a reverser, you will have access to it with the center section removed.
Look in the pictures page and there should be a pic of a 3PT crawler.
No tags were used other than serial number tags. No way to tell if it is later or not, but would not be uncomnon to have been replaced.

Hi,
Red paint? Where's the red paint? Should be either green (ag) or yellow (ind). Perhaps something was rebuilt along the way and repainted with a red primer? I can tell you that all my Deere machines (M, 40T, 420C, 430W) have no primer under the factory paint. In that era, they usually dipped the entire machine in a paint bath! :p So, final color is also the primer! :p :p
My 1958 420C, with differential-style direction reverser, 5-roller track frame with 12" pads and model 62 6-foot manual angle/tilt blade, and no 3-pt weighs in at 7200 pounds fully wet (measured by weighing the truck/trailer/crawler and then re-weighing the truck/trailer after the crawler was removed). Weight, of course will vary widly based on what equipment a given machine has.

red 420
Hello
i'm waiting on what Two cylinder says.
The red paint maybe something that somebody else did,
but it sure don't look like primer, I have used in the autobody trade
It is a bright red not a rust looking red
I maybe "hopeing" to have a 1 in a 1,000,000 find but I'll see what "they"
can't tell me
Thanks

I have an orange 420, I'm working on now. Don't know if Deere painted it that way or not but it appears they did. Deere would paint it any color you wanted, if you paid for it. If you are getting 2 Cylinder to do a serial number research, no definative way to know from that. It might have CJ code recorded but the code could mean anything. Dubuque didn't keep real good records or they no longer exist on what the CJ's were. All you can say is there was something different about that one. If it has a factory 3-point, that could be reason for the CJ code.
I don't mean to demean your pictures Lavoy but they get worse as they get bigger. They're great for identification, look and shape at the tractor level. But when someone asks for pictures of a 3pt hitch, a view of the whole tractor doesn't help much. If I run across parts, I'd like to know what they look like, whether the set is complete and how they're mounted.
If you don't have pics available, I understand.
