OK here is what I do for trees with our 440. I dig under the front of the rootball, and then along the sides to cut the roots. Then it woks best if you can get to the other side of it, but sometimes you can get it from the front. With the roots cut on at least 3 sides, I dig as shallow as possible under the tree, and keep pushing until the tree falls over to at least a 45d angle, 30 is better. Then tilt or dump the bucket so the top of teh bucket is near the tree. I then chain the bucket tight to the tree, tip the bucket all the way back, lift a little, (watch the tree as it tilts back onto the top of the tractor so it does not smash you). Now backup and lift and you should have the tree with you. I have gotten trees as big as 8" this way, and it is nice to move the stumps around this way as I don't have a 4 way bucket to grab onto it with. I get the stump where I want it, then cut the tree and drag that away. Maybe crazy, but works for me.
