jd 350b
I am working on the reverser on a 350b, getting ready to run a pressure check. If the pressure readings are low do I need to add shims to increase pressure. Dealer says shims come in 25 and 60 thousands Does adding 1 shim change the pressure reading that much?
Re: jd 350b
The reverser has three adjustable pressure valves - and you didn't mention which one you're messing with. With any of them - but especially the lube/release or clutch main - you want to check hot and at high RPMs for the shim adjustment. Then check hot a low speed - especially lube release. The clutch main pressure is not so critical that the shim thickness is going to be big concern. It can run 100 PSI up to 150 PSI and be in a safe range - but keeping it around 125 PSI usually works best in an older 1010 or 350. I've often used small washers instead of Deere shims. Dry steering clutch crawlers run a lower pressure than 350Cs and newer - since higher reverser clutch pressure is needed to keep the steering clutches from slipping.rmayo wrote:I am working on the reverser on a 350b, getting ready to run a pressure check. If your've having problems, make sure the accumlator bolt is adjusted to the proper length.
Just got this 350b Thought I would run a pressure check just to be on the safe side. Wouldn't move when I got it, backed out the screw and it started moving. Have a service manual and was going to do the pressure test in the order it specifies just to be sure. If the clutch pressure is low will that effect the cooler return pressure? Or vise versa? What I mean is if for some reason I would need to adjust say the clutch pressure (130 psi)will it throw the other pressures off?
Adjusting any one of them does not have much of an effect on the others.rmayo wrote: If the clutch pressure is low will that effect the cooler return pressure? Or vise versa? If you had to open up your rate-of-shift orifice jet to make the machine move - sounds like you already have some internal wear and leakage.
But, if you take care of it, it still might last for years.
Get it adjusted so a full throttle shift in second gear - forward to reverse - is firm but does not break your neck.
Make sure you can keep at least 15- 20 PSI lube pressure at engine idle when hot. 1010s used a low-lube warning light - but 350s didn't have that luxury.
Make sure the arm on the reverser control valve that is hooked to the clutch pedal returns all the way - and there's no dirt stuck behind it - and - the big return spring is still good and not stretched out.
