I have a straight 450 from '67. I just got the service manual in here for it, and it's for the crawler/loader, not the crawler/dozer. Anyone have instructions on how to remove the dozer blade? I'm guessing it's not to complicated, but I'd like to have a push in the right direction, before I just start taking bolts out.
Thanks,
John

are you taking the blade off the push frame or the push frame off the crawler? Randy

Well, don't I need the push frame off to get access to the final drive? I'm sorry if my terminology isn't exactly right. It's my first dozer. If I can get by without taking the push frame off, then great, but I didn't figure that was possible.
Thanks,
John

Really? I can pull out the steering clutch assembly and all that jazz without taking the blade frame off? That was one of my main concerns. I knew that wasn't necessary on newer JD's where the hydraulic cylinders, etc are placed inside the tracks. I just figured that on the older ones with that big frame outside the tracks, that it would be in the way.
Thanks,
John

Well, I might be able to get by with that on one side. On the other side, however, I need to replace the track tensioner and the drive sprocket. Thanks so much for your replies. As long as I know how to get started, I should be in good shape.
Thanks,
John

If you get time, pics would be great, but there's no pressure on that from my end. I'm thinking that as long as the whole assembly isn't more than 8-900 lbs (which I'm guessing it probably isn't close to that) I should be able to lift the whole thing up and off with the FEL on my tractor.
Thanks,
John

JSVice, I had no problem lifting that section off of my 450 with my FEL (1300# Lift Cap.). Starting to lift that high in the air though made the back end lite.
