My New 350 C, Smoking
My New 350 C, Smoking
I finally got it!!! This little unit seems to be in pretty good shape it pushes (pretty strong) well for its size and everything seems to be working ok, for a guy that dont know much about a dozer. Allthough there is a couple things I have noticed is a smoking issue after running the little machine for about three hours everthing was working well with the exception of smoking as a guess i would say it is from a fuel injector or the pump, any ideas where to start trouble shooting this issue.[/img]

What color smoke and when is it smoking? White? Black? Full load, no load, while revving it up, etc.?jmw_1768 wrote:I finally got it!!! It pretty much smokes all the time but worse under load and if you rev up and let off it smokes pretty bad, the smoke is kinda blue and has a bad odor kinda like a burnt fuel oil smell.jdemaris wrote:What color smoke and when is it smoking? A very general rule of thumb is this. If it starts well cold without ether, doesn't use excessive oil, and has good power - it's is probably just overfueled or under-aired. Many 350s got their pumps turned up in efforts to get a little more power. I knew many owners of new 350Cs that were not happy unless they saw black smoke pouring out the stack when pushing hard. So for those guys, we turned the pump up.jmw_1768 wrote: It pretty much smokes all the time but worse under load and if you rev up and let off it smokes pretty bad, the smoke is kinda blue and has a bad odor kinda like a burnt fuel oil smell.
If you're sure the air filter isn't restricted, and all elses is fine - check the pump timing advance (because it's easy to do). If not working right, adjust it so it is. Other than that - pulling and checking injectors can't hurt anything - except your wallet. Not rebuildable, not always easy to get out, and brand new ones cost close to $50 each.
I'll tell you this though. Any 350C, if you don't know the history ought to have the injection pump checked out for internal damage. Very common. Just pull either the three-bolt top cover off the pump - or - pull the little two-bolt timing window off the side. Look for any debris that resembles mouse turds. If you see anything - the pump needs to be pulled off and fixed before it self-destructs.
