OK, what did I just look at??

Post by gus » Fri Feb 13, 2009 2:21 pm

I stopped by a farm a few minutes back and there sat a JD. It appeared to be a MC or 3 roller 40, But that is not the question.

The question is about the blade on it. Outside mount, manual angle. A frame was connected to both cross bars the blade pivot was on the front one. The lift system was an enclosed cylinder inside the track frame in the space above the rollers. A short arm attached to a shaft coming out of the enclosed part had a link to the blade frame and lifted it. Same on both sides. Very compact. I had to look twice to see how it worked. I've never seen one like this before.

Sorry, no camera along.

The lift system is for the MC1000, #1000 tool carrier. The arms may or may not be from the same as there was never an angle dozer setup for the tool carrier. If you keep clicking on the pic in the upper LH corner of this page, you should get a pic of an MC with an MC1000 tool carrier on the rear.

OK, flip that tool carrier to the front, reverse the lift arms, put a blade on it!!  I think somebody has and I think he beafed the arms up a bit too. :D :D I'll get a photo when I get time.

How common are tool carriers??

Yes, when the tool carrier is on the front, then one of the options was the MC100 dozer blade attachment.
I don't know that they are rare, I have had/seen many. What is hard to find in one that is not destroyed/molested/trashed, etc.

Only a photo is really going to tell you if it's been worked over. It would seem pushing a blade would put far more stress on the side pieces than pulling a tool. Also that very short lift arm along with almost no leverage (very short distance from pivot point to lift point) must make for a weak ability to lift it.

By the way, I'm not buying it, don't even think it's for sale. Just saw something different and wanted to know what it was.

Yes, if used for a dozer, and with reduced operator common sense, they did not hold up very well.
