I have a carco model c winch that I am in the process of tearing down. I have the drum off, but I can't get the two pins out that hold the brake band to the brake linkage. I can't tell if they are tapered pins or what? I don't have a manual for the winch so I'm learning as I go. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately, they don't go back that far with their online manuals. If anybody has a manual for the model c winch that they'd like to scan, I'd be interested in buying one.

Does anyone have any experience getting stripped gear splines repaired. I'm hoping a machine shop could build the material back up with welds, turn it and cut the splines. Is this possible? What kind of money are we talking about? Luckily, all the other gears were untouched when the bearing disentegrated.

A good machine shop will be able to repair your splines. The cost will depend on your locale as much as anything else. These things tend to vary widely from market to market. It might be your only choice though.

Thanks Guido, after I wash it up I'll get some estimates. I'd like to get the winch running again. It's my dad's old crawler and I can remember as a kid setting chokers behind him. That winch can pull in some pretty good sized logs.
