Advice on 450C transmission noise

Post by mark 111111 » Tue Aug 25, 2009 5:21 am

Hello all,

Reletively new to site but have already benefited greatly from the wisdom of shared experience here.

Located in Australia advice on these machines is a little hard to come by, so I would be most appreciative of your thoughts & advice on the following:

450C traxcavator has a clunking noise similar to that descibed in relation to the 350 machines, it is pronounced at idle & is linear with increase in revs till I assume the engine drowns out the noise.

I have had a final drive failure on the machine & have rebuilt both final drives, changed oil in transmission & screen filter about 100 hours ago, there were no metal fragments nor filings in the transmission oil, all looked healthy.

The noise is either in the clutch housing area or in the H-L-R area, the dry clutch seems to have no change in resistance throughout its entire movement.

I will use the powershift to shift from H-L but use the dry clutch for any other changes as I find the change to be a little harsh & occassional a bing noise will occur as two pieces of metal striking.

The clunking noise is there regardless of dry clutch being engaged or not, it may be that the dry clutch is not disengaging & the H-L-R shaft is constantly rotating.

I am sourcing some test equipment to check the H-L-R clutch operation.

Has anyone got any idea about the noise, if the dry clutch should have a noticable change in resistance & if this is an adjustment.

Thanks in advance.
Regards
Mark
