JD 440 pins & bushings

Post by Dave T » Fri Sep 04, 2009 3:38 pm

For what it's worth, I talked to a JD industrial dealer about 5 hrs. ago and he informed me that JD 440 IC pins and bushings for the 2 bolt tracks and 4 bolt tracks are available through them, He confirmed this with their regional warehouse as I waited. I mention this because of what I have read on this and other sites, I got the understanding that they were not available. Out of my price range but available.

I've just been through the same process. JD is around $2300.00 for P&B for a 5 roller. That's NOT installed, plus $80 for master pins (each).

I was given a similiar price tag. For that kind of money JD 350 tracks and sprockets looks much better, unless you want to keep the original stuff. Me, I just want to play in the dirt.

I am working on an alternative to Deere, but won't probably know anything for a few months.

First, I want to thank everyone on this message board for the help you have given me.(not directly, but by reading the information provided.) My tracks were VERY worn on my 420C five roller. (measured about 24.25"). My last project this summer caused the bushings to wear through. Since the cost of new pins/bushings is very high, I contacted a parts salvage company when I needed some other parts for my crawler. I asked about tracks & they had some for my crawler -- $800. When I went to pick them up, they were not that great. The previous owner had welded the master pins in place. The salvage company had torched the links to remove the tracks. I didn't want the tracks after this was done. One of the workers in the yard directed me to a pile of crawler parts in a section of the yard. I looked closely at some of the tracks there. One pair caught my attention. They looked in very good condition..it was marked for a 440. :cry:I counted the links(did this at least 2X) and it matched the number of links for my 420! I had them pull them out and I measured the tracks for wear. They measured 23". They were the same 12" street pads that I already had on my machine. The bushings were turned and the pins were probably also turned, but the $900 price for the set seemed very reasonable, since these tracks will probably outlast me. So, check out some of the part salvage yards, you might be surprised! :D

Hello Yellow420....I read your post above and wondered if you could help me. I just broke two track links on my 440 and am looking for a couple of used ones. Can you give me any contact information for the salvage yard you spoke of in your post? I live in Boise, Idaho and can be reached at 208.343.1661 or email charless@q.com. THX SO MUCH

I would get some 1/2" or so steel (same width as link ht) and make temporary links of the same length as original. Maybe a pipe for the bushing and grade 8 bolts to hold it together. This should hold for moving it to where you can work on it.

440 IC chain links

Post by Dave T » Tue Oct 27, 2009 11:42 am

I had some good luck looking for parts for my 440 IC five roller at twocylcr@webtv.net , Ralph Newman, 1-541-472-9196. He's located in Oregon . He had some parts that I couldn't find else where at what I thought was a good price. He may have some chain links.
