Hey guys I'm back for more info on a 450c
The first thing I have is a leak on the right side and I believe thats where all my tranny fluid is going. Could that be in the final drive area. I don't have a clue what I'm doing here if you couldn't tell. How big of a job is it to get to the final drive (if thats the problem) to get it fixed. One more thing what kind of tranny fluid should I use in it. I don't want to have to buy the HIGH Dollar JD fluid. And the same with the hydraulic fluid. Yes I need lots of help with this beast. Thanks in advance.

Fluid
Not sure about your transmission leak.
My 450B service manual states JD 303 fluid or equivalent for transmission and final drives.
32 quarts for transmission.
6.5 quarts for each final.
303 tractor fluid is about $24 for 5 gallons here at a parts distributor.
Would advise getting a JD service manual for your machine.
Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for the responses. I have been on vacation and I'm just getting back. Where is the best place to get the service manual? I have not had any luck finding one. I do have the owners manual but it is worthless. Sounds like a BIG job not sure if I can pull that one off. When I get the chance to work on it I'll let ya'll know how its going. Thanks again.

Thats the site for John Deere you can buy manuals on thier in differernt formats. The cheapest is to down load it and print sections as you need them and the print themagain when they get to greasy

Where is the leak coming from? It is possible that you have a bad bearing which will knock out the seal jn the steering clutch housing where the final drive attaches. There is no gasket between the final drive housing and the steering clutch housing so if the seal goes it will leak between the two when the oil comes out of the clutch housing.
If that is the case, split the track, take off the final drive, put in new bearing and seal, silicon the living daylights out of the joint between the final drive and the steering clutch housing, put the steering cluth back on, put the tracks back together and away you go. Oh ya, forgot you have to drop the skid pan and remove the counterweight too.
Best shot is to get a service manual because there are a couple of other wrinkles in it too.

The leak is coming from the right rear side at the back of the track. Not sure if that helps. I'll get a picture and post it. I really don't want to have to get that deep in repairing this guy. I don't have the equipment to do that kind of work. Thanks for all the info on the manuals. Downloading it sounds pretty good. I have done that on a few manuals and it seems to work better for me.
