Hello guys, figured I would ask the forum for some help before i part out my 1010 diesel. I bought a rebuilt 2010 diesel engine from a good friend of mine this fall for my 1010. It starts really hard, has no power, smokes, and heats up really fast(will go all the way up to H in under 2min) These are the things i have done so far- changed the thermostat, re ringed it, checked cam to crank timing and replaced the cam, adjusted valves twice, checked oil pump to cam timing, and timed injector pump several times. I also replaced the injector pump thinking that might be the problem. Adjusting the injector pump to either side of timing line doesnt make a difference. I am out of ideas and ready to pull my hair out.
Thanks
Andrew

Have you eliminated all the factors external to the engine? I do not know how the hydraulic pump couples to the engine on a JD1010, but could it be so damaged that it is putting a large load on the engine. On the other end, is the engine clutch able to disengage the drive train and eliminate any form of load caused by the clutch, direction reverser, transmission, etc?

Hello Gil, I have tried it with and without the hyd pump installed. This 1010 has the reverser, which i have left in neutral and tried in gear. I did have a running 1010 diesel in it this fall, which would run the crawler fine, but had a massive rear main seal leak which I couldnt fix.

Hi stretch, I know it isn't running backwards. I also know its timed correctly, as I made sure it was on the no 1 compression stroke when I changed the cam. My engine rebuilder suggested swapping the injectors. His way of thinking is if they were rebuilt to open at a different pressure then that would throw off the way it would run. I swapped the injectors a few days ago, hoping to have it running today. If this doesn't work I think I'm gonna swap in a 350 reverser and diesel engine. Will take some fabbing, but would be a cool toy when its done.
