420 carb

Post by panhead » Tue Mar 16, 2010 4:45 pm

I have a TSX 688 carb, on the wifes 420.
What would be a good initial setting for all of the adjustment screws?
How about a float level height?
I ordered a carb kit, so there might be some instructions in there, but my manual is about useless in regards to the carb.
Thanks
Jim

This is a great manual for the MS carbs. Looks like one turn from seat is the magic number on pages 11 and 12 of the scanned document (13 and 14 of the pdf)

Jim,
From the Deere manual SM-2024 for the TSX688 the float level measurement is 1/4 inch. Carb upside down with float resting on needle valve measured from casting face to float. be careful with the float, they are expensive.

The initial setting for the Idle needle is 2 turns off seat. Remember the idle needle is an AIR adjustment so as you turn it out it Leans the circuit.

The initial setting for the Load needle is 2 turns off seat. Adjust from there till it runs smoothly and then turn it out 1 full turn. Of course it should be at opperating temp when doing this.

If after this it still will not run smoothly (and it is carb related) take it apart and clean it again. Doesn't take much to plug a jet.

Hope this helps ,

Chuck
