2010 Final shaft bearings

Post by CHA011 » Mon Jun 14, 2010 7:56 am

Left final track sprocket shaft inbd and outbd bearings, outbd brg cap and seals BAD (hopefully no other damage WHEN I get the bull gear removed). Trying to accomplish removing bull gear and shaft without removing the complete final. I have the inbd brg cap, retainer with two bolts and shims and inbd brg inner race removed. The inbd spacer moves but it is to large to fit thru the inbd brg out race. At which time I get the bullgear to move on the shaft but stops even with 10 ton press between the shaft and the rear case. I believe I have a snap ring that needs to be removed..Better lighting beyond a flash light with patience will help.
3 crawler loaders working on one from the junk yard, Lord bless us.
Toys that I play with in the year 2010. Thanks Lavoy I final got the new engine to run

2010 Final shaft bearings

No comments, The toys are 2 hours away and outside garage work, so things take awhile, even so I have a life time.
Service manual 2037 pg 150-10-2 Fig 150-10-3 shows a snap ring (I) at inbd brg cup, However description for removal of flanged axle and final drive gear doesnot mention any snap ring (for removal or reassemble).

When I get this stuff apart, Are some of this available at commerial bearing supplies. Like JD7418 & JD7395 final inbd brg assy. JD8207 & JD8152 final outbd
brg assy.... Pinion shaft final inbd roller JD8721 & JD8720 outbd..

Other stuff like AT15975T oil seal, AT12996T oil seal and T14345T oil seal housing, I will have to get from (?).

I do not know if you can remove the bull gear on a 2010 with the final drive still on the crawler. On the 420 you have to have a special puller to remove the bullgear from the axle shaft. I made mine from scratch using a port-a-power to press the gear off the shaft.
The Service Manual for your crawler will show you the procedure for removing the bull gear.
The bearings should be able to be cross referenced at a local bearing supply house. The bearing for my 420 are available at my local Erie Bearings store.
Some of the seals are also available.
Take the bearings into the store and have them cross reference them.
Here is a link to the thread on the bull gear puller.

Where in Pennsylvania are you? I live outside of Meadville.

2010 Final shaft bearings

Toys are at Scranton 2 hours from me currently. 570-622-1289 would like to talk to yeh, a short conversation..must leave messages...
My first dilemnia, the parts book and service manual shows (depicts) a snap ring, however the description of removal and reinstallation in the service manual says nothing about a snap ring..Yes I reallize the book states final housing removed to accomplish this maintenance and a special pullers and the like for many jobs, My premise however is the manual doesnot known what or why we are trying to fix something in a specific pattern. I do not known the (faults) about this junkyard machine but moving it around (30 feet), the left clutch and brake appears operational. The right side is not and from a quick observation, the right side must come apart..
Manual also states, prior to final housing removal, remove the final drive pinion shaft, which Iam sure also needs new brgs (you see final housing never oil in it or in a long time)..Next action is to remove this pinion shaft, however it has a set screw (bolt) at the clutch drum, getting at is the next joke..Trying not to ripe a lot of stuff apart so that I will get time to work on the right side..
The reason for working on this junk is (after 60 years plus, I hate pick and shovel..

Updates-Removed the left final drive pinion cap and shaft wth patience. Found end of pinion retaining set bolt end broken, due to desentagratted outbd brg. Because of wanting to do complete maintenance (learn of 2010 stuff) I realize final housing must come off, however prior to I still am trying to remove axle flanged shaft, and bull gear due desentagratted bearings, with housing still installed.
In my mind I answered the snap ring dilemna, where the parts and service manual depicts a snap ring but maintenance description doesnot mention it in the removal of the flanged shaft..(snap rings are for retaining inbd & outbd brg cups, has nothing to do with flanged axle).
Now after 5 cups of coffee, torched bull gear and flanged shafted until I could no longer put my hand on the (final housing and track rail which is a distance away)..10 ton press at max plus hammers--still will not break loose. One could say "help". I do not know what's next (we shall see)

Left side of the crawler is apart. More coffee, reposition 10 ton porta power maxed pressure, 5 foot crow bar and 15 pound sledge. I say it came apart hard due to no oil in the final housing. Now it is decision time (parts), take them from a donor crawler. It will give me more practice taking thins apart..

Simular project as Pammark with lots of pictures, thanks for posting, Iam not a good picture taker.
As previous post-I decided to use an original purchased in(1978) as the donor. I removed two complete cultch, final drive housing assemblies. Due to the new sprocket, boggie rollers, front idler and track put on the donor crawler ten years ago. I decided to remove the complete left side of the crawler and rebuild the #2 crawler with all new parts.
Currently reassembling #2 crawler after painting track and rail assembly. I hope to start the machine and trun it around for work on the right side, in about a week. Heavy metal is a lot of fun to work on, as long as you donot allow it in your mind..
