Looking for a JD engine lift hook or eye.
Attaches/screws to one of the valve cover studs.

Go to a Chevy dealer. Very common part for 305's like $5 each. Otherwise it is a 3/16 piece of steel with a 1.25" hole on one end and a .375" hole on the other and about a .5" web between the 2 holes.

Junkyard could sell you a pair for $5?

I thought the smallblock Chevy lift rings attached to the intake manifold bolts rather than the valve cover studs? I suppose you could still get it to work though.

I believe you are right. They looked like a bent bracket and did attach to the intake bolts.

The factory eyelet only hooks to the front stud. It is 7/16" NF female thread.
Or, just take a flat piece of strap and drill two holes in it so you can lift from two studs instead of one. Weld another piece perpendicular to the first with a hole to hook your chain hoist to.
