I have a 40C Operators Manual posted in the sale forum. I went to ebay looking for a 420C OM and found another 40C manual.
The 40C manual on E bay is not the same as the 40C manual I have. On EB, the manual says OM-T3-952, the one I have says OM-T9-555, both have different covers, both say 40 crawler.
The one I have came with a 40C, along with repair and parts books, from the original owner.
Did JD have a different one each year? Or

One possibility is the different manuals for 3 and 4/5 roller crawlers.

Ah, found the answer in a Google search- there are two manuals because there is a serial number range break at S/N 66264:
http://www.jd40.com/manuals3.htm
This web page seems to have a lot of other good info for a 40 owner.
(1) JD Straight 450 crawler dozer with manual outside blade; (2) JD 2010 diesel crawler loaders; (1) JD 2010 diesel dozer with hydraulic 6-way blade; (2) Model 50 backhoe attachments, misc. other construction equipment

Thanks!! Always someone who can find the answer
The one I have has a newer graphic and colors, more like current production. The other list on E Bay has the older look and colors. The description on EB sounds like the inside is the same. Same sections and content.
Did the 420's differ when they changed the side frames and starters??

OK, still another question.
I looked at my old, beat up, copy of the 420C operators manual. It has the same colors and graphics as the OLDER 40C manual?????
Wouldn't you think the newer 420 would have used the newer style?
