I opened the access cover today to see if I could correct the poor left steering by adjusting the brake and to my surprise when I looked in I saw that the brake band is twisted. The lining (which I can now see) looks pretty good so I think that if I can get the band back where it belongs my steering problem will be fixed. So my question is has anyone had this problem and if so how did you correct it? I tried loosening the adjusting screw some but the band seems like it might be in a bind. Any help would be appreciated.
I hope someone can answer another simple question for me. I have a late model 1010 and the service manual says to turn the steering control rod to adjust it. I backed off the lock nut, but I don't see how to turn the rod.
This is my first crawler so I have a bit of a learing curve here.
Thanks,
Jon
twisted brake band
If you mean that it is up off of the drum in any way, it is not an external fix. The band is most likely on top of the cast in piece in the bottom of the clutch housing that is supposed to hold it in place. Normally this would have to happen on installation of the final drive, and usually results in a damaged or cut in two band.
