Towing a dead 2010C
Towing a dead 2010C
2010C Diesel HLR
Dead, we think it has a spun main bearing.
OK we got a dead 2010C out in the woods, we need to tow it in.
If we shift it into the "TOW" position, exactly what does it do?
Problem is this machine is it is "stuck" in the 1-2 position.
In order to change it, we have to open it up and manually move the gears to change it.
The guys have moved it about 6 feet and it stoped, won't move any more.
I think we need to open it up and shift it to "tow".
Thoughts, comments, opinions?

yes i would say i have 3 2010s and have never had any of them in tow i think that is neutral good luck you bringing her back to life? If the steer clutchs are good you can block the levers up to where it releases but not to where the brakes apply and she will move
2010 with 622 dozer with mod. 35 ripper and a 2010 with 622 dozer bought in 1969 and a 2010 loader with drott and mod. 36 ripper
Looking in the book, it looks like we're fighting the gears in the tranny.
It looks like the "tow" position puts both shift collars in "neutral", so none of the gears are connected together.
OK, thanks..Will try blocking the levers like you suggested, if that won't get it we'll have to open it up and get it to "tow" position.

Technically you are supposed to put the dash shifter to "tow" if you are going to tow any significant distance- however I have towed my 2010 with HLR short distances in neutral on the HLR shifter but left in gear on the dash shifter. Are you sure that something else didn't happen like the brake pedal locked in place?

Well, we got it down to the garage.
We opened it up and shifted it to "TOW", and yes that does put both shift collars into "neutral" so the gears don't spin when you tow it. If you figure the gear ratios, to pull it at one mile an hour it has to spin the gears at something like 2500 rpm.
It took the winch, a Ford 8n pulling and an MC pushing to get it up the small hill (50 ft altitude)in the road, then the MC pushed it down hill (250 ft altitude) all the way to the garage - total distance just under a mile.
We think the pressure valve in the oil pump is stuck open, drop in oil pressure, spun bearing.

OK, well here we are almost a year later..
Yes it had a spun Rod bearing.
The plunger in the oil pump was STUCK open.
I had to remove the oil pump to get the plunger out...
Got the Rod bearing and the oil pump plunger both fixed.
Now All I got to do is remove the injection pump, time the oil pump, then reinstall and time the injector pump.....
OK, so now I need to find the little crush washers for the banjo fittings..
Book says they are "T 11292 T" gaskets.
Any body got any?..Gonna try NAPA in the morning..

Sucess!!
It's alive again.
Took all day bleeding and cranking to get all the air out of the lines, but it finally started. (took my time, went out once an hour and cranked on it, then let it sit and cool/charge the batt.)
Ran it for about 30 min a varying speeds.
Got 30psi oil press up to running temp at idle, 50-55psi at full power.
all bearings sound good, no noise/no knock.
Almost hated to shut it down...
now all I got to do is put the skidplate and blade back on..
