Bad rings? Smoking under load

Post by sterjess » Sun Nov 13, 2011 6:50 pm

Well, I posted on my 1010 not turning left a couple days ago. Well, today I took it over to a friends house to help clean out a pole barn, got about halfway through the job and the steering started working better and better it seemed the more I used it. The engine was smoking under load though, not terrible but after about an hour it started smoking worse and worse. Finally I shut it off since it's a new machine to me and wanted to make sure it wasn't running low on oil. Well it was, I dumped almost 3 quarts of oil in after less than an hour of running it, it's smoking pretty bad now through the breather that comes out through the valve cover, sound like blow-by from bad rings? I guess I'll have to get this thing into the shop and go through the whole machine now. Anyone looking for a winter project?

You're just down the road (literally) from Lavoy, this site's administrator. He has a business in Horace, ND repairing old JD crawlers, if you decide to have it done by someone else.

His phone info is at the bottom left of the home page:

http://www.jdcrawlers.com/

You can also PM him on here.

I would venture to guess that he will respond to this thread sometime today as well.

I am pretty well booked for the time being, but not something that difficult to do yourself.
