Unless Lavoy tells me to leave I will apprise you of my headaches here. LOL
I traded my 420c for a 60, first pic is what I was willing to trade for.

At the time he said he would get it down to me and assured me it did run.

When I looked at it (no it did not run then) I was told all it needed was a distributor cap and the fan was a little loose.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.
It arrived to home here and I found out he had cannibalized it. UGH!
He had stolen the rockshaft arms. Points were missing, dead battery. Most of the bolts were removed, I mean what the hell! Talk about cheap!
The wife told me that he (the former owner) was no mechanic.
So here goes the next adventure.

Like I said above, alot of bolts were missing. More like he started to work on it and never kept them handy to give back to me.
So here is a video I did of the fan being loose.

Well time to take it down to repair the fan. Here is how the fan looks from a exploded parts list.

After 8 hours of work with my good friend Greg we are at this stage here. Yes the temp on the wall reads a balmy 28F.

The friction discs are gone. Item #6 in the exploded view. So here are the other parts to replace. Fan drive cups, and the friction plate on one end.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Where I am now. Well I am waiting on the parts to come to my local JD dealer. I found out the former owner had no knowledge of how to wire something.

He told me he rewired it after the OEM switch failed. So he put a toggle switch in that separated juice from battery
to the alternator. He also wired the ignition to the alternator and wondered why his tractor would not shut off when he threw the switch.
The way he would stop the engine was to unplug the ballast resistor. He also could not understand why the lights didnt work.
They are wired to each other only, with no power from the switch or the battery. He cut the wires (rather than unscrew the terminals)
that lead to the ammeter and dash light.
Sigh, I do like a challenge.
I do like any and all suggestions. I also hope Lavoy lets me keep posting this here on this better board.
