Late model 420c reverser

Post by LarryD » Tue Apr 10, 2012 4:36 am

Hey Ya'll,

Just bought my first Crawler.....a phase3 420c. Of course one of the prior owners felt an uncontrollable urge to remove that pesky serial number tag, so phase 3 is as close as I can narrow it down. I bought it as a basket case, and am pretty sure I have enough stuff to build one Crawler and have quite a few parts left over. The parts I don't have I can fabricate as I have my own machine and welding shop. Now.....here is where I start begging for forgiveness, for my lack of knowledge, and for any info. I can lay my hands on. The reverser seems to be engaged in forward and reverse at the same time as the input shaft is locked. I pulled reverser cover and things look ok......no spare change in bottom of torque tube, lol......and the shifter forks and shaft slide easily with it pulled. In place however nothing will move. Seems as if clutch packs are bound. I got a parts breakdown, and a service manual, but the service manual has not one thing about this style reverser. I was hoping maybe someone could point me to a pdf of the service instructions for this style reverser.

Thanks in advance ya'll
Larry

Thanks for the info Jim. I was going crazy trying to figure out what I had there for awhile. Thought maybe it was a hodge podge of parts someone had scabbed together out of a scrap pile. Lol The waters are starting to clear a bit now. :P
