Update
The wife and I went and looked at a 350 crawler loader on Sunday, only about 20 min from home. Guy's asking $2,500. Apparantly runs good but rad is missing. His story is that he was using it (ran and steered great) but the rad leaked so he took it out to "send it away" to get fixed. Whoever he sent it to apparantly lost it. So here it sits.
The good - new looking injector pump but the bad - about three sizes too big rubber hose for return lines with the cheapest possible gear clamps. The good - looked like all the pins on the loader were quite recent. But thats about the end of the goods. Oh it had all four rockguards but it had been converted to grousers with holes blown out with a torch. Razor sharp sprockets, idlers wore into the covers, no skid plate...
Without me saying a word he came down to $1,900. He aksed me what i thought and I ses I would love this crawler for $500. Him "$1,000 and its yours" I told him I would discuss it with the wife. On the way home I decided that I can get aggravated for free so why not keep my $1,000?
So I will keep looking...

A brand new rad would not set him back that much, several hundred maybe. I have to think he has a different reason for not wanting it "running" when the buyer sees it.
Good decision, they are out there.

It seems that parting just one crawler is not easy and could take forever unless you are set up in the business.
There are just not enough folks looking for all of those different parts at near the same time. You have to store it, also.
And it never fails, the part they want requires you to disassemble much of it. Takes time, then you have to tag and store all of the parts that you took off to get to the part that they wanted.
If he has a direct need to those parts and can sell a few to offset his investment, then it makes sense.

$1,000
I would have ripped my pocket off for a non-running 350 for $1,000.
Basically all you would need to sell is the bucket and a couple of cylinders to get your money back.
The dealers here in Alberta (Brandt and Twin D) most of the time don't have the used parts you are looking for and if they do they are very pricing.
I've have been buying as many reasonably priced runner and non-runners as I can get my hands on. I can't remember the last time we had to go to a dealer other than for seals and bearings. We don't get many calls for parts sales and we don't advertise so we really don't make much for money on the process, but atleast we have parts for rebuild projects. The only parts we have sold in last 6 months is a 350 winch and arch to scotty in Sask and a 450 engine to a guy in Fort Mac.
One of these days, these crawlers will get more scarce and will go up in value.
Undercarriage is another story, I am looking for new idlers for my own personal 350C and not available right now thru the aftermarket supplier. Phoned our Brandt salesman that we deal with for my day job and he is seeing what he can do for me on pricing. We bought a complete UC for an 850J thru him (thru my day job) last year so hopefully he will get me a good deal. I will also let him know we are considering an 872 grader to get him salivating

Parts
My first wife left just before I got out of the "parts" business last go around so I am going to try to avoid the same scene. Just trying to get back into my hobbies now.
The only way parts sell here is if they are bolted together and drive themselve on to someone's trailer.

Brent, you are so right about that crawler for 2500, I went see it March 21 and I had my trailer with me. It would not start that day. Total junk! I did not make an offer, you were kind at 500! He has been driving it in the yard without a rad! (in straight lines, before the engine quit working) I have never seen anything so worn out, and he kept trying to brag it up as a good crawler.
He could not believe someone came all the way from Alberta with a trailer and then turned him down at 2000.

When a seller has a bad one, the further away the buyer - the better. He was just disappointed that you were smart enough to know better than to buy it.

Scott this is the one by St. Louis? He told me some story about him doing 20 hours worth of work around the yard and showed me a pile of old buildings but I figured he could have easily done that with his wheel loader in an hour or so.
I figured something was up. I'm sure they hauled that thing out of some gravel pit south of there and sold off the rad and now trying to get something for the rest of it. Did you notice the 2-bolt pads? Shouldn't it have 4 bolt?
I guess there could have been a bit of value there but its not my thing anymore and I would actually rather give you or Jason or Lavoy a bit extra for the parts I need.
One of my landlords has a 350 with brand new rails, rollers and sprockets but the only thing is the rockgaurds are gone and its got groosers. The tranny won't go into 3rd and it pops out of 2nd but the steering seems okay and it actually runs!
