440ICD Rebuild IV (engine break in and final phase)
I hope you guys do not get tired of the pics. I decided to document this rebuild with many pics. I feel they are invaluable not only for documenting what was actually done (better than receipts since receipts do not actually prove the engine contains all of the parts listed), but also to help others that are doing the same project.
Hard to believe that I am finally down to just small details and putting nose, hood, and blade back on. There are a few hydraulic hoses that will be replaced so that most if not all of them are new.
I painted the engine and a few other parts, but the major paint job will come later. I am tired of it being a shed queen!
I am ready to push some dirt!!!! I already have several projects lined up for it.
Enjoy!

My ICD has the 6 way blade. The hydraulic tank is on the right side of the rad.

Your correct iron popper. I have the 602 blade and hydro tank is the same as the one on 2006's.
Also, the battery is out on the fender instead of under the fuel tank.
Never too many pictures 2006, they have helped me tremendously. I'm still going back to your threads from over a year ago with the pics.
They are all very detailed and seem to show little things that help a lot.
Keep them coming.

Break in going well. Only had a small leak in the top tank area of the rad. It is an easy fix as soon as I decide what to use.

This is "fast idle" as JD describes it. It is right around rated wide open which is 1,975 RPM.
JD detuned the 2-53 as to prevent damage to the drive train. These engines will run faster AND develop more power, but it is a bad idea to do that as long as it is in a 440ICD.

The previous owner had it for many years and used it occasionally on small jobs.
It had been cleaned and painted a few years before I got it.
The U/C has very little time on it. That was one of the big "buying" points for me.
The engine smoked (never caught it drinking or chasing women though) so I knew an over haul was in the cards.
I am still amazed at the fact that it is under it's own power again. It took longer than I wanted, but the result will last me a lifetime.
