Opinions on this straight 450?

I do know that wheel loaders and excavators have put a huge dent in the market for crawler loaders.

From what I can see from "here", the tracks look pretty good. When the loose track gets pumped up tight there will be plenty of adjustment left. But - who knows what else is worn?

I think $5500 is high for a 450 loader unless in verified excellent condition. A dozer with a 6 way blade - maybe - but not a loader.

Here's a way to check the condition of the tracks. I'd ask for these measurements.

The price is creeping up a bit but we will see if it gets as high as his original asking price. Some things tend to be more pricey out here as they are few and far in between.

Certainly at the price it is at now, you can't get too hurt because it isn't much higher than scrap price.

I keep an eye on crawler prices here in the Midwest (auctions, resellers, etc). and ithe 450 loader prices seem to vary all the way from $2K to $8K. At the low end of the scale there is usally a major issue that is causing it to go for scrap value and at the higher end of the scale you should expect new or replaced major components (such as a rebuilt engine or transmission or new undercarriage) or an attachment like a backhoe or ripper.

As for the .50 BMG, it is a really neat gun to fire. The one I tried was a bolt action conversion of a AR15. It's not what I expected. The kick is not nearly as bad as what you would expect- not much more than my .30-06 or a 12 gauge pump. The difference was the pressure wave from the muzzle- when it goes off it sends a shock wave in about a 10-15 foot radius, even at people standing behind it. The pressure wave travels right through your body and is a very disconcerting feeling.

They are also not a very cheap hobby- I think the rifle itself was $2500 and the cartridges were around $2 to $3 a piece. I was honored to get a chnace to fire one.

It would bring $1500-$1600 in scrap here where I live. That's a huge difference from $5500 or am I missing something here?

That's what I saw, although Ebay auction prices have a bad habit of jumping substantially in the last couple hours due to everyone holding off so I don't expect it to stay there.

Well no-go on getting the owner to provide track measurements... says he is too old, gray and worn out to bother I am off in a few hours to go camping for the weekend so will see on Monday (or Sunday if the rain keeps up all weekend) what the price is and if I am still interested enough to make the 8 hour round trip to check it out.
