550C crawler transmission Issues, no forward gears

Hello all hope you can help me. I have a 1979 550 C crawler, it will not go in any forward gear, it has reverse, which feels strong, The previous owner was using it, and with no warning , he had no forward gears. I have been looking at the tech manual to get an idea of how it works. Any ideas of what to look for first before i tear into it?

Well one of the first things is there is no such John Deere as a 550C .As I have mentioned many times before what you have looking at the serial plate is a 550 C is for crawler then what is the next letter this is the series letter before you tear it down make sure that the FNR side of shifter has no restrictions then check trany problems by testing the pump pressure and we can go from there .Digitup.

hey , thanks for the response to our transmission issue, I looked in the tech manual, we checked the trans pressure, everything looked pretty close to what is supposed to be, except #10 3rd clutch, it was real low, what might make our pressure even worse is that the trans probably was not warm enough for the oil to thin down, our temp gauge does not work,

I only could find test point on the left side, #8 could be #9 , when I was testiing the pressure , the ones that had 210 lbs were the same when I put it in forward and reverse, my question is about # 10 that came up zero,does that mean a bad valve or is the clutch leaking all the oil out, wow I have all kinds of questions, but I sure am learning alot , any ideas?????
