Reverser Fluid Leaking

Post by nydozer » Fri Dec 21, 2012 2:20 pm

Hi Everyone - This is my first post but we have a new to us John Deere 350C that we picked up last year. The machine has around 4000 hours (based on hour meter??) but is in really nice shape with a winch and full tree rops. All fluids were changed before using and when we initially drove the machine the reverser fluid (by front of right foot) squirted out of the dipstick a little for the first hour and then was fine for 50-60 hours of use and would only leak a little if the doser went up or down a steep slope. The fluid appears to be at the perfect level based on the dipstick at this point.

There is a crack in the o-ring on the dipstick so I am not sure if this was the reason for the leak but have been told that there should not be any pressure so for it to squirt out may be an issue?

Any thoughts? The dozer shifts and runs perfect. Maybe it was just a little too full after changing the fluids?

Any info would be great.

Welcome to the forum and Happy Holidays! :D Chances are you just over filled the reverser. They will allow some fluid to escape around the dipstick because this is also a vent for the reverser. The dipsticks on these 350 reversers are hard to read. So make sure you are reading it correctly. There will be two lines with arrows and you should be no more than at the top line. Typically about two and a half gallons of fluid is all they will hold. No more than three gallons for sure. The reverser will sling a lot fluid around inside the case as it is running.

Thanks for the information. You were correct and the reverser was a little too full. Thanks again for your insight.
