350 REVERSER QUESTION

Post by MattE » Mon Jan 28, 2013 12:37 pm

Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys. Decided to rebuild the reverser while its in the shop. Pulled it and tore apart the valves. The manual says there should be shims in all three reliefs, but mine just had them under the the first one. Is that normal? I'll pressure test and adjust when I've got it back together. I was just wondering if I should buy some to have on hand.

To answer your question... Yes this is normal. However, usually there is at least one shim in each one of the valves. I would stick a couple under each one just to be certain that you will have enough pressure to begin with. Older machines, "B" series and older should run somewhere in the 130 PSI range... plus or minus about 10PSI. newer machines will run a little higher than that at about 150 PSI. Again plus or minus about 10 PSI. This is engagement pressure. Your lube oil and bypass pressures will be considerably lower than that. This is one case where it's better to have a little too much than not enough. As always a Tech Manual is highly recommended. :D
