450B loader hyd rubber & hard line replacement

Post by Labparamour » Wed Mar 12, 2014 9:47 am

Well, looking to replace the old rubber lines to the bucket cylinders and it looks like I need to break the hard line down behind the lift cylinders to raise the couplings above the loader/dash frame enough to reach the coupling. I also found one of the hard lines (behind the loader arm cylinder) crushed so I'm going to replace that at the same time.
Looking at this mess, it appears I need to pull the loader arm cylinder to allow room to move/remove the hard line.
If there's a better way I'd appreciate any input.

Never mind: moved boom cylinder forward and it allowed me to snake the hard line out the top.
Bucket lines need to be replaced, too.
Will be off to hydraulic shop tomorrow.

On my 450c pulling the cylinder is required, I tried and tried to find a better way but could not. It's a real chore to fix those hoses ....

The thing I'm going to do different when I do the other side is :

1) I'm going to do a pre repair day and make sure the pins to pull the cylinder are free. When I did the first side the upper pin was seized up and it took me 3 hours to get that pin out which made the repair in general take all day. I was so wore out and frustrated at the end it was terrible.

2) My 450c Has 4 lines that pass thru the frame that I had to break loose where you step into the cab area. I should of numbered those 2 of them are very similar and I spent a fair amount of time figure out which one was which.

Other than that it's just really a pain it's all hard to get to and work on.

Yep, I already had the 4 hard lines above side frame/under step-through apart since I'm also tearing into steering clutches and the tank/seat, etc are currently off.
Not sure why they couldn't have had hard lines pop out above loader frame to connect hoses? Seems they built the whole machine around some of the commonly replaced parts!
All my cylinder pins came out easily (thankfully).
Good luck when you tackle the other side.

Thanks for the reply,
Darryl

Picked up replacement hoses and hard line this week and was excited to piece back together.

Well, imagine my frustration trying to thread hard line couplings together inside loader frame- not a lot of room and the replacement line is about 1/2" too long!

I think anywhere else, one could manipulate the pieces to get it together. Inside the frame- not so much. So, gonna shorten and reweld the male coupling on the steel line and try again.
Who would purposely design a set-up like this? The hard line stops short coming out the top of the loader frame so you can't easily break the joint to replace the hoses on the top and the hard line itself is two-piece from loader control to top of loader frame with the joint buried inside the frame behind the cylinders!
Well, thanks for letting me vent! Will give it a fresh start tomorrow...

Well, finally got it pieced back together.
Used the stake pocket on my trailer as a pipe bender to do a little "fine tuning" and got things to line up.
Buttoning up some other odds and ends and hope to fire it back up next week.

Improvise, adapt and overcome. Nice information, I need to replace some of my lines as well as a boom lift cylinder pin or fix the pocket. Did you rig the bucket up on something to get the boom cylinder out? I was thinking of making a shorter bucket support that would go between the end of the cylinder to the boom/rod end to accomplish the same thing. At that point if the pin is pulled you could use the loader hydraulics to get the blind end in and out. Obviously you could only do one side at a time like that.

I set the bucket on some cinder blocks...about 2-3' off the ground.
The lift cylinders are slightly "nose down" in that position. I pulled the front pin and used a chain through the rod eye and over the boom frame then "babied" the cylinder forward supporting the back end on blocks. Worked fairly well and pretty easy to line up the pins when putting back.
The pin bosses in the frame seem pretty substantial...I'm not sure why there might be play like your describing. Good luck with that.

Good write up!

Talking about supporting the bucket, I set my bucket flat on my GN flatbed. Not only was it the right height to make the lift cyl's fairly flat I had great tool bench..

I'm hoping it the pin. Next thing is to find a pin.. If not I will make one. In our building we have a full machine shop so if I have a used one in hand or know the exact measurements I can design up and machine a new one.

I need to repack move bucket cylinders as well, they drift and the bucket rotates down. Was like that when I bought it.

This was the thread I was looking for... As you can see in my post I just blew a boom lift hose. I going to so what you did and replace all the hoses. Question, did you need any special wrenches to get the hoses off the lines or do I need to remove the hard piping with the line to get them off?
