Been on the site here at times, and mostly kicking tires out in the field. After reading posts there seem to be some dozers to kinda stay away from because of parts availability.I think I want a JD450 but which one ? I would like to stay in the $15-17k range.Parts availability is a priority.I am only going to use it on my property to maintain wood roads and play with. What percentage undercarriage should I try to stay with. Also what about aftermarket undercarriage parts ? Are there tracks and sprockets available ? I can do most of my own work except the diesel work mainly since I have no experience on diesels.
BTW it took me 5 yrs of kicking tires to finally buy my 4wd tractor which I am totally pleased with---Kubota M6800. Thanks guys. Ed
So what 450 should I look for

For the price range you are looking you should be able to buy a premium condition 450C or even a 450G in decent shape.
When I needed a D8k, I hired a mechanic to come with me to a Ritchie Bros auction to check out a few machines. Was well worth the cost and I ended up with a great dozer for a reasonable price. I would say I am very good on assessing small crawlers but this was outside my experience level.
Undercarriage parts are readily available for all models of 450's. Labour is not that expensive unless you get Into changing rollers. Just make sure if you do buy undercarriage that you are getting a quality brand.
