The hydraulic shaft stripped out at the coupling I had it apart to change fan belt not sure what happened? I removed the 2 bolts each side pump and it won't budge. Don't want to hit the pump to hard for risk of damaging it. There isn't 2 bolts that run through the pump housing that have to be removed or dowel pins ? Any help with this would be appreciated.

If you can, look at john deere's catalog (jdpc.deere.com), enter your model number and then search for the hydraulic pump. it will show you how the pump is mounted. I just pulled the hydraulic pump on my 455E yesterday. After removing the two mounting bolts, had to "tap" the pump with a hammer and then use a screw driver to get the pump to come away from the mounting bracket. Once that was done, it just lifted out....then pulled the coupling out the front....

It shows the 2 bolts. I'm going to try and grind 2 slots to fit pry bar in to see if I can get it to budge that way. I've been hitting it pretty hard not much luck. Thanks for response.

My friend used my 3 lb sledge hammer to tap on both sides of the pump....once saw the pump break the bond to the mounting plate, was able to get the screw driver in.....it did take a while to get the pump to move though....

If it is the coupling, I was able to get an aftermarket one from Reliable Aftermarket Parts for around $45 with shipping included...about $10 less than other places I checked....

Got it off with some heat and a pry bar. The coupling stripped out at the pump

pump shaft looks okay. I ordered a replacement from john deere ag for about $50 less than Nortrax. It's still $95 dollars. Hopefully button it back up and it holds together. Is it common for this to happen ? All the circlips were still intact.

Don't know anything about the frequency of failure but the coupling is the designed wear point....it should go first to protect the pump....or so I have been told....

Put the new coupling in and all is good. Your theory must be accurate. The coupling stripped out completely yet the hydraulic pump shaft didn't suffer any damage.
