Thank you jtrichard for that link and according to those numbers I am way off again The SN I have is 450CA-234819T and the link says its a 1975 model Well one thing I have correct for sure is its a 450"C" So with this tidbit of info are the sumps together and I think I am going to start by pulling the fuel tank, bat box and top of clutch housing to see if I can see a leek? My big question is since I have no left breaking can the bands be changed without removing the track/sprocket assy?

Yes sir I can (I hope:) Please keep in mind that most of this is from memory from about 3yrs ago and the rest is from just this week. Back when I was using the unit I remember that the left steering was getting weak and the left lever was feeling like there was nothing there. You know how when you pull back on the steering lever you have a short distance of free travel and then you feel when you start tightening the band? So at that point I adjusted the adjusting wheel just above the track (where I now have oil pouring out of) and the steering brake seemed to work fair again although there was still a bit of lever travel and that is compared to the right side. So now just a few days ago I moved the unit to prepare entering the shop and when I pull back on the left side I have nothing. I have to pull past where I need to go and back up using the right steer only. I will admit that you tossed a wrench in my thinking by telling me the band was submerged in oil so maybe I am on the wrong track. If you feel I am thinkin wrong please don't hesitate to tell me!! The only thing I am 100% sure on is my main clutch is out and I am going to desperately try to repair that this next week and I thought since I am pretty sure I have a leak on the left steering I would just replace while I was in there.

If you need the engine clutch Kentucky Clutch can fix you right up . There in Brooks KY about 12 miles south of Louisville on interstate 65 . The phone number is 502 955 9173. Also you can change the brake without removing the steering clutch drum or braking the track. If you live at Columbus IN Brooks Ky would not be a bad drive. I got the clutch, pressure plate , throw out bearing for less than 300.00 dollars this is rebuilt parts
Hey Drloch, I greatly appreciate your inquiring! I had a huge setback that is a bit embarrassing but what the heck, I did not get injured to bad As you know very well I am pulling in the crawler because the clutch is out, and after a bit of work I managed to get it in front of my garage to clean it and get ready to pull it in. Well it seems that the only time it will pull is when it is pretty cold and the clutch will grab but only briefly until it warms just enough to slip again. After I managed to get it pulled with my tractor and turn it so its aimed to pull in I had accidently left it in low when I shut it off the other night because I just forgot and assumed it was in neutral since it had stopped pulling. Well I went out the other night to back it up, pull out my tractor, and pull in the crawler to get all the fluids drained. I jumped up on the track turned the key and hit the starter button, (nothin runs like a deere) and she fired right up! She also took right off with me on the track and my 10x10 garage door was still down Well I fell off and she rolled right on through the door and up onto the grader box of my tractor which was on the other side of the door where the clutch finally warmed enough to stop pulling and come to a rest. I had to wait until the next day to pull it off of my tractor and I just came in from removing the garage door to get the tractor out. This clutch keeps getting more and more expensive I will have to postpone the work on it in a few days now.

Wow. I don't pay attention for a couple days and stuff happens.
This is what I don't like about neutral safety switches. They make one sloppy about double checking the gearshift and then fail....
Fortunately, this time only the garage door 'bought it'....

I am glad it had a somewhat happy ending, not so much for the garage door though. Just think if you had a good clutch... where would it have stopped then? With mine if it was in 1st and LO range it would just keep pushing, if it hits something that it could push it will start spinning the tracks.rufustoad wrote:If I did that I would not have any good stories for you guys I will definitely look into it!
