450 steering clutches

Post by np205 » Mon Apr 18, 2016 9:47 am

Also have my 450B up on the operating table for steering clutches.

Have a digger derrick truck, that helps a lot with lifting off tank/seat assembly, moving tracks around, etc.
Set tractor on blocks of oak chain-sawed out of a recent downed tree.

Had to use a block of wood and Enerpac to get sprockets off.
Whacking with a sledge from opposite side while some pressure was applied to sprocket with Enerpac and they came off easy enough.

Biggest problem I have had so far is annoying cotter pins frozen in linkage. Clipped them off flush and drilled out after removal.
Actuator arms on horizontal shaft had to be gently heated to get them moving toward outside. Pinch fit with woodruff key on two of the parts.
Have to watch for those.

Bungs for pinion set screw and brake shaft were frozen, more gentle heating and they came out.

My tracks needed replacing too, so they almost fell of when the tensioner was compressed.

Definitely not a one evening job, at least for me.
