I just got a 1010 dozer with an inside blade. It is manually adjustable. I want to angle the blade and looking for the routine for doing so. I am old and tired of learning the hard way. Any help out there?

Re: Angling 1010 Manually
The two telescoping arms have pins that hold them in place. Remove the pin on the side that you want angled (extending the arm). You also need to remover the pin on the casting on the end of that arm on the back of the moldboard. Slide the blade out to the hole you want, and replace both pins.

Re: Angling 1010 Manually
Will these blades handle the stress of hooks on them like shown in the picture, or is the angle casting too fragile to handle much pulling/lifting with the blade?
Re: Angling 1010 Manually
I would not do that. When it breaks, you are looking at very scarce, and/or very expensive pieces to replace. If you have to have a hook up front on the blade, I would put it in the middle of the dozer frame behind the moldboard. At least then, the pulling load is directly on the main frame of the dozer, and you would only have some up or down force on the moldboard.

Hi,
The only thing I would use hooks on the blade like that for is carrying a piece of drainage pipe. As in, having just dug the trench across the road, now carry the pipe that way for ease of laying it in place. For pulling anything, that is what the drawbar on the back is for.

Re: Angling 1010 Manually
I did a no-no this past spring, in Maine. When my neighbor got his 2-wheel drive pickup stuck in the ditch near my driveway, and several neighbors attempted to pull him out, they got him in worse. So, I brought ol' Johnny down and hooked under his bumper, to the hook on top of my blade, forgetting the rule against putting a lot of strain on a 420C in reverse. (partly due to the spring loaded idlers) I raised the blade and tried backing up, to no avail. Got rambunctious and put ol' Johnny right up on his nose a couple times. Finally, after giving one more big tug, still couldn't move that truck. Next thing I new, I had thrown a track off the front idler wheel. We tried popping it back on, but gave up, as I realized we'd have to back off the spring. By the time I went up to the house and brought back my special wrench, I had to go eat lunch. (Diabetic) A half hour later, I was informed the track was back on. I turned Johnny around and pulled him out with the chain hooked over my (inoperative) winch, no sweat. Lesson learned, the hard way.
